ANNISTON — Damon Pope scored two touchdowns and passed for another, and Anniston continued its last-season surge with a 43-14 rout of visiting Good Hope in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs Friday.

Anniston (7-5) advanced to the quarterfinals and will play next week at West Morgan (12-0). Anniston has \won five of its last six games, the lone loss a 28-24 setback to Class 5A Jacksonville in the regular-season finale. The Bulldogs have won all five games against 4A competition in that stretch, including two playoff games.

Anniston has averaged 40 points in its past five games against 4A competition.

Pope scored on runs of seven and 19 yards and threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Jakorie Carr.

Anniston also got two touchdown runs from Brock Grant, and Jabari Williams recovered a Pope fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.

PIEDMONT 21, LAUDERDALE COUNTY 6: Rollie Pinto caught five passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns, and undefeated Piedmont avenged last year’s second-round loss to Lauderdale County while advancing to the quarterfinals.

Piedmont (12-0) will play host to Fyffe (9-2) next week.

Pinto caught touchdown passes of 67 and 97 yards from Cole Wilson, who completed 15 of 23 passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns.

Ishmael Bethel caught nine passes for 92 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown pass from Wilson.

Hayes Gunn led Piedmont rushers with 37 yards on eight carries.

BROOKS 41, ALEXANDRIA 35: Alexandria rallied from deficits of 21-0 and 27-7 but came up short in its second-round playoff game at home.

The Valley Cubs finished 8-4, and Brooks (10-2) will play host to Cherokee County next week.

Alexandria quarterback Cole Wheeler hit on 21 of 36 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns, 22 and 29 yards to Quendavion McDowell. Wheeleralso rushed for two touchdowns, one and two yards.

McDowell caught seven passes fo 134 yards, and MJ. Morris had nine catches for 112 yards.

Elijah Hunter had a team-high 38 yards rushing, and J.J. Beason’s 35 yards included a 6-yard touchdown run.
