Surging Anniston boys down Talladega for sixth consecutive victory. Anniston girls get sweep started. Spring Garden boys, girls sweep in area play. Coosa Christian boys get 10th win. Munford boys up to 9-4.

TALLADEGA — Anniston’s boys have found their groove after close losses early in the season.

Caleb Ackles scored 17 of his game-high 18 points in the first half, and the Bulldogs crushed Talladega 64-39 in Class 4A, Area 8 play Thursday,

Anniston improved to 9-3 overall, 2-1 area while making it six consecutive wins after a 3–3 start, which included three losses by a combined nine points.

The Bulldogs retooled this season after losing six seniors from the 2023-24 team.

Dakyas Baker and Jakorie Carr added 12 points apiece for Anniston on Thursday, and the Bulldogs outscored Talladega 28-10 in the first quarter.

Jaden Curry led Talladega with 13 points, and Ronson Moten added 10. 

SPRING GARDEN 75, FAITH CHRISTIAN 43: Coming off of its championship in the Heflin Holiday Hoops Classic, Spring Garden (14-0) got 18 points from Jacob Welsh, 15 from John Welsh, 14 from Jaylen  Brown and 12 from Connor Bates while winning in Class 1A, Area 12 play.

Colton Reese paced Faith Christian with 13 points. Parker Robertson and Ethan Taft added 10 apiece.

COOSA CHRISTIAN 64, APPALACHIAN 47: J’Alan Terry led the way 15 points, and Coosa Christian improved to 10-2 overall, 2-0 in Class 1A, Area 11.

Kylen Johnson added 12 points, D.J. Mackey 11 and Jaxon Peek 10.

MUNFORD 62, WELLBORN 39: B.J. Anderson hit two 3-pointers on the way to 12 points, and Kyler Shaw hit two 3-pointers on the way to 10 points as Munford improved to 9-4.

Devin Elder and Trent Stringfellow added eight points apiece, with Stringfellow hitting two treys.  

Jackson Clark paced Wellborn, hitting two 3-pointers on the way to nine points.

Girls

SPRING GARDEN 74, FAITH CHRISTIAN 11: Spring Garden’s Olivia Law scored a game-high 17 points to go with four steals.

Maggie Jarrett hit four of six 3-pointers and finished with 16 points and four steals, and Ace Austin’s 15 points came with 11 assists, nine steals and eight rebounds.

ANNISTON 60, TALLADEGA 47: Saniya Spinks led Anniston with 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals, and the Bulldogs improved to 11-5 overall, 4-0 area with their third consecutive win.

Yuori Lloyd had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds and added four steals.

Anniston also got 12 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals from Jada Fomby and 10 points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists, from Liberty Lewis.

Talladega’s Zae Cunningham scored a game-high 24 points.
