WEAVER — Sometimes, the feel is just right.

Such was the case for Weaver’s Chloe Collison, who signed Wednesday to play volleyball for Coastal Alabama Community College.

Her choice came after going to a tryout in November.

“When I walked in and tried out, the whole environment just felt really welcoming,” she said. “I really liked how lively everything was, and then I loved the campus, and I like how close it is to the beach.

“I just feel like it’s going to be a really good fit for me.”

The 5-foot-7 Collison expects to play middle or right side at Coastal. As a senior outside hitter at Weaver, she helped the Bearcats qualify for the Class 3A North Regional, contributing 47 kills.

Southjam Volleyball director Anthony Mince, who attended Collison’s signing in Weaver High’s library, worked with her since she was 10.

“I knew immediately that she had a lot of talent,” he said. “I saw something in her, and I put her on our 12U team. She did nothing but just work hard, and she continued working hard all the way to this year. …

“She’s the first athlete to stay with our program for seven years, and we’re very happy to say that.”
