Piedmont’s boys, girls edge Glencoe, earn right to play host to area tournament. Spring Garden’s boys down Donoho, clinch area hosting rights.

PIEDMONT — Piedmont’s boys and girls won the right to play host to the Class 3A, Area 12 tournament Wednesday.
The boys beat visiting Glencoe 72-68, and the girls beat the Yellow Jackets 50-49 in overtime.
Led by Rollie Pinto’s 21 points, Piedmont’s boys improved to 14-5 overall, 5-1 area He hit three 3-pointers.
Ishmael Bethel added 14 points, including one 3-pointer, and Cole WIlson hit three 3-pointers en route to 13 points. Colton Proctor hit two threes en route to 11 points, and Taylon Swain added 11 points.
Glencoe’s Grant Smith led all scorers with 31 points, including three of Glencoe’s seven 3-pointers. Garrett Morgan’s 17 points included three 3-pointers, and Jayden Patton added 11 points.
Cayla Brothers led Piedmont’s girls (11-10, 5-1) with 18 points, and Melanie Studdard added 13. Amiyah Thomas added nine.
Glencoe’s Kinlee Montgomery led all scorers with 20 points, including five 3-pointers. Alli Jo Amos added nine.
SPRING GARDEN 58, DONOHO 32: Noah Barber hit five 3-pointers on the way to 17 points, and top-ranked Spring Garden improved to 24-0, 8-0 in Class 1A, Area 12.
The Panthers clinched the right to play host to the area tournament.
Spring Garden beat Donoho 60-57 in overtime earlier this season. Donoho played without injured forward Jordan Cameron (ankle) this time.
Spring Garden’s John Welsh led all scorers with 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Jake Welsh had eight points and seven rebounds.
Bruce Downey led Donoho with 12 points.
