OXFORD — Make it five college signings for Oxford’s 2024 football team.

Four Yellow Jackets celebrated their college signings Thursday in the school’s Champions Sports Complex, with running back/wide receiver D.K. Wilson and defensive back/kick returner Cedric Twyman headed for Harding University, linebacker Desmond Whitson bound for Clark-Atlanta University and offensive lineman Markevion Conley choosing Mississippi Community Christian College.

Oxford quarterback Mason Mims signed with Louisville during the December signing period.

The 2024 Yellow Jackets went 13-1, winning the Class 6A, Region 13 title and reaching the state semifinals.

Whitson, Wilson and Twyman were East Alabama Sports Today first-team Class 4A-6A All-Calhoun County picks, and Conley was an honorable-mention pick.

Wilson (5-foot-10, 175 pounds) played running back, receiver and defensive back for the Yellow Jackets, rushing for 389 yards and three touchdowns, catching 62 passes for 691 yards and six touchdowns and intercepting five passes.

He said Harding recruited him for offense.

“We went up there, and it felt very welcoming,” he said. “I talked to a lot of coaches, and they gave me a scholarship on the spot.”

Twymon (5-11, 170) finished with 60 total tackles and three interceptions and was chosen to play for the Alabama North All-Stars.

“My decision was just based on where I thought I fit in how it was a Christian school,” Twyman said. “I just wanted to be somewhere with God. I just felt like everything was right by the grace of God.”

Whitson (6-2, 215) had 48 total tackles, including five tackles for loss.

Clark-Atlanta “showed me the most love,” Whitson said. “They gave me the best opportunity. I just felt like it was a great spot for my family. It was close to home, and it was a great spot for me. I feel like I fit in there.”

Conley (6-3, 230) helped to pave the way for an offense that gained 5,173 total yards.

He said he chose TWCCC “because it’s a good program. They’re known for winning in their division, and it’s an opportunity to get closer to God than I already am, and they’re looking to better me, get me out of there in one year and pursue my career somewhere else.”
