Spring roundup

Three Oxford pitchers combine for a shout-out, and Yellow Jackets open with victory at Spain Park. Donoho girls blank Westbrook Christian.

SPAIN PARK — Marcus Lawler drove in three runs in his first baseball game with Oxford, and the Yellow Jackets opened their baseball season with a 7-0 victory at Spain Park.

Lawler, who transferred from Donoho, also walked and scored a run.

Canaan Whitman doubled and drove in two runs, Nick Richrdson singled, drove in a run and scored.

Gavin Griner, Reid Maniscalco and Bryson Bradford combined to hold Spain Park to three hits. Griner had six strikeouts in five innings of work. Maniscalco and Bradford each pitched a perfect inning of relief.

DONOHO 1, WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 0: Samantha Wakefield had Donoho’s goal as the top-ranked Falcons improved to 2-0. Goalkeeper Anna Harrison McGhee got the shutout with seven saves.
