State champion Alexandria opens baseball with 4–3 victory over Jacksonville. Central-Clay victorious. Davidson’s homer highlights victory for Ohatchee softball.

JACKSONVILLE — Camryn Johnson went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Jeremiah Heathcock was 2-for-4 with two runs as 2024 Class 5A state champion Alexandria opened the baseball season with a 4-3 victory Friday.
Jacob Slaton and Cooper Smith each had a hit and an RBI. Smith’s hit was a double.
Emmitt Pinson allowed four hits and one earned run with four strikeouts and one walk in three innings. Bray Goode struck out six batters and allowed three hits and two unearned runs with two walks in four innings.
Jacksonville’s John Ducar had two hits and a run. The Golden Eagles also got single and RBI apiece from Jackson Bonner, Kingston Peeler and Sam Wagoner.
Ducar allowed five hits and four earned runs in five innings but also struck out five batters. Matthew Salmon allowed two hits with a strikeout in two innings.
CENTRAL-CLAY 8, CLEBURNE COUNTY 2: J.T. Wilkerson and Andrew Seals drove in two runs apiece as Central-Clay downed Cleburne County.
Wilkerson went 2-for-4 with a double, and Seals had a single.
Eli Harris went 3-for–5 and scored three runs, and Tyler Boyd was 2-for-3 with a run. Kaiden Glenn was 2-for-3.
Wilkerson got the win, allowing four hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts in three innings. Boyd allowed two hits and no runs with six strikeouts in four innings.
Cleburne County’s Hunter Gore went 2-for-4 with a run, and Tyler Rucker and Matthew Wilson each had a single and RBI.
Softball
OHATCHEE 10, WELLBORN 2: Tabi Davidson went 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs as the Indians opened with a victory,
Gracelynn Reed went 2-for-3 with a double and a run, and Makayla Bracket had a triple and RBI. Alanah Fitch had a single, walk and two RBIs, and L Thomas had a single and two RBIs.
Mackenzie Luna had a single and RBI.
Jordyn Faulkner got the win, allowing two hits and no earned runs with two strikeouts in four innings.
Wellborn’s Destiny Benefield had a single and scored a run, and Jaylyn Chattin had a single.
