Spring roundup

Ohatchee baseball edges Pleasant Valley in extra innings, and Ohatchee softball ups to 4-1. Also, reports from Alexandria, Westbrook Christian and Cleburne County baseball.

PLEASANT VALLEY — Ohatchee scored two runs in the top of the ninth to take a two-run lead and held on to win 6-5 in Tuesday’s high school baseball action.

The Indians made good on two walks and a balk ahead of Brayden Collins’ single to score a run. Xavier Luna scored on a wild pitch.

Pleasant Valley’s Logan Williams singled home a run in the bottom of the ninth, but Ethan Jones struck out the final two batters on the way to the win.

Jakson Smith led Ohatchee at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Collins went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Jones doubled and scored two runs.

Pleasant Valley’s’ Peyton Mann went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Williams went 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Dixon Duncan went 2-for-4 with a run.

ALEXANDRIA 8, GADSDEN CITY 5: Bray Goode had a single and two RBIs, and Alexandria downed visiting Gadsden City. 

The University of South Alabama signee also scored a run as Alexandria improved to 2-0.

The Valley Cubs also got a single and RBI apiece from Camryn Johnson, Jacob Cunningham, Emmitt Pinson, Jacob Slaton and Garrett Haynes.

J.D. Copeland pitched four innings, allowing six hits and three runs (one earned) with three strikeouts and no walks.

WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 8, WHITE PLAINS 1: Westbrook’s Dylan Rainey and Braden Kay combined to strike out 12 batters and hold White Plains to four hits.

Rainey struck out seven batters with no walks and allowed three hits and no earned runs in four innings. Kay pitched three innings, allowing one hit and one earned run with five strikeouts.

Brodie Johnson had a double, two RBIs and a run. Brody Blevins and Emmett Daniel each had a single and RBI, and Daniel scored two runs. Jacob Maples went 2-for-3 with two runs, and Rylan Barlock went 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and a run.

White Plains’ Ashton Wallace had a double and RBI, and Logan Laube went 2-for-3.

CLEBURNE COUNTY 13, RANDOLPH COUNTY 1: Cleburne County’s Asher Brown went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs.

Easton Thompson went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs. Matthew Wilson went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs, and Aiden Laminack went 2-for-3 with a double, run and RBI.

The Tigers also got an RBI apiece from Gabriel Wickersham and Cody Clayton.

Jacob Pentecost pitched four innings, allowing one hit and one unearned run with eight strikeouts and six walks. Brayden Maduro struck out two batters while pitching a hitless inning in relief.

Softball

OHATCHEE 13, GADSDEN CITY 4: Ohatchee’s Mackenzie Luna homered with two RBIs and three runs, and Tabi Davidson doubled with three RBIs as Ohatchee upped to 4-1.

Alanah Fitch went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run. The Indians also got two hits and an RBI apiece from Savannah Reaves, Reese Steward and Lexi Thomas, and Steward’s day included a double.

Gracelynn Reed and Mollee Barnes each had a single and RBI.

Makayla Brackett pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts. She allowed five walks and four hits with three earned runs.
