Spring roundup

Munford wins Talladega County baseball tournament. Hope Christian sweeps DH to make it five wins in a row. Also, wins for Pleasant Valley, White Plains, Jacksonville, Faith Christian and Jacksonville Christian baseball; Pleasant Valley, Jacksonville, Ranburne, Munford, Randolph County, Central-Clay and JCA softball; Donoho, Weaver, WP soccer.

SYLACAUGA —– Playing in the Talladega County championship game, Munford’s Lathan Stephens and Austin Wynn combined to hold Fayetteville to three hits, and the Lions won 8-2.

Stephens struck out nine batters in five innings of work, and Wynn had three strikeouts with two talks in two innings.

Kane Krafthefer had a double and two RBIs, and the Lions got a single and RBI apiece from Wynn, Gatlin Watts and Brody Wilson. B.J. Anderson singled and scored two runs.

HOPE CHRISTIAN 12-14, HERITAGE CHRISTIAN 0-4: Trevor Ryals pitched a one-hitter with five strikeouts in Game 1, and Hope Christian beat visiting Heritage Christian 12-0 and 14-4 in a doubleheader Thursday at Big Jack Stovall Sports Complex.

The Saints improved to 5-2 with their fourth and fifth consecutive victories. 

Ryals also went 1-for-3 with two RBIs in Game 1.

The Saints got three RBIs apiece from Eli Bozeman and Easten Strickland in Game 1. Bozeman was 1-for-1 with two runs, and Strickland was 1-for-2 with a double.

Cayden Slick was 1-for-1 with three runs and an RBI.

Game 2 saw Slick allowed six hits and two walks but one earned run with seven strikeouts.

Strickland went 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and a run, and Bryson Bradley added three RBIs and a run.

Sean Perez had a double, two RBIs and a run.

PLEASANT VALLEY 20, GASTON 2: Pleasant Valley’s Logan Williams went 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, six RBIs and three runs. His third-inning home run was an inside-the-park grand slam. Jackson Acker, Cooper Dougal and Nic Acker scored on the play.

Dallas Roper went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs, and Dixon Duncan went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Will Underwood had a single, two RBIs and a run.

The Raiders also got a single and three runs apiece from Noah Johnson and Nic Acker, who also had an RBI.

Roper pitched all five innings, allowing three hits, one walk and two earned runs with five strikeouts.

WHITE PLAINS 5, GLENCOE 2: Aiden Kilgore pitched a complete game, and White Plains downed Glencoe 5-2 in Thursday’s high school baseball action at White Plains.

Kilgore allowed six hits and one walk and two earned runs with four strikeouts in seven innings. He also had a single and scored two runs as the WIldcats improved to 4-4.

Ashton Wallace and Dalton Luker each hit a double. Luker scored two runs, and Wallace scored one.

Luke Richardson and Jacob Stamm each had an RBI.

Glencoe’s Jace White went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Jake Boggs was 2-for-3 with a run.

JACKSONVILLE 2, CLEBURNE COUNTY 0: John Ducar pitched a three-hitter and six strikeouts as Jacksonville improved to 6-7.

Drake Loggins had a single, an RBI and a run, and Kingston Peeler added a single and a run. Xaye Lemon hit a double.

Cleburne County’s Brayden Maduro and Tyler Rucker combined to allow three hits. Maduro allowed three hits and two earned runs with one strikeout in four innings, and Rucker allowed one walk in three innings.

FAITH CHRISTIAN 4, WINTERBORO 1: J Smith pitched a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts, and Faith improved to 4-3.

It proved to be key on a day when the Lions had five hits … a single apiece from Colton Reese, Canden Martin, Dylan Rogers, Levi Wells and Asher Ray. Rogers and Ray also scored a run apiece.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 16, SAKS 5: Noah Lee went 3-for-4 with a triple, double, five RBIs and two runs as JCA upped to 5-1.

Jesse Gannaway was 4-for-5 with a triple, four runs and two RBIs, and Bryson Dowdey went 3-for-5 with a double, four runs and two RBIs.

The Thunder also got a single, RBI and a run apiece from Jameson Holderread and Moses Averette.

Gannaway and Grant Daffron combined to hold Saks to three hits. Gannaway allowed one hit, two walks and two earned runs with five strikeouts in three innings, and Daffron allowed two hits and one walk with three strikeouts in two innings.

Saks’ Lajuan Curry had a single, two runs and an RBI, and Eli Willis was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

Softball

PLEASANT VALLEY 16, GASTON 0: Haylie Lee and Abby Evans combined to hold Gaston to no hits in three innings, with Lee striking out four batters in two innings, and the Raiders improved to 8-1 while winning their area opener.

Lee also had a double and three RBIs.

Alexa Cranmer went 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs. Aubree Cromer was 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, and Lily Henry was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

Cailey Almaroad went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and an RBI, and Ellie Patterson had a double, a run and an RBI.

JACKSONVILLE 13, WELLBORN 2: Jacksonville’s Lacey Barnes went 4-for-4 with a triple, two doubles, four RBIs and three runs.

Dailyn Wood went 4-for-5 with a triple, double, four runs and two RBIs, and Raybon Pridgen went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run.

Sadee Pate-Whitfield had a triple, a run and an RBI, and KeAsiah Williams tripled and scored three runs.

Chloe Lockett got the win, spreading out 10 hits while striking out five batters in seven innings. She also went 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Harper Atchley was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Wellborn’s Brylee Ward went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Ryleigh Smith was 2-for-3, and Jaylyn Chattin was 2-for-4.

RANBURNE 12, HANDLEY 7: Ranburne’s Jayla Stewart went 2-for-5 with a home run, three runs and three RBIs.

Aubie Rollins went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Rylann Graham was 3-for-4 with two runs.

The Bulldogs got a single, RBI and run apiece from Autumn Lovvorn, Rylie Duke, Peyton Smith and Karoline Meadows.

Handley’s Olivia Cobb went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Brynnley Lane was 2-for-3 with  two RBIs and a run.

Breydan Watkins went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Rileigh Bradley was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Rayna Smith went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs.

MUNFORD 17, ANNISTON 2: Munford’s Jena Gaither went 3-for-3 with a double, five RBIs and two runs, and Kastin Lathem was 3-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and three runs.

Raleigh Dew had a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Addyson Britt had a single, a run and an RBI. Brooklyn Pressley had a single and scored three runs.

Madison Arnold allowed two hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts in three innings, and Pressley pitched a perfect inning of relief with two strikeouts.

Anniston’s Lyric Williams had a triple, a run and an RBI, and Kameriya Thomas added an RBI.

RANDOLPH COUNTY 20, WEAVER 10: Randolph County’s Kinsley Weathers went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs.

Bryer Thompson went 4-for-5 with a double, five runs and three RBIs.

Hannah Parmer was 3-for-5 with a triple, two doubles, three runs and two RBIs. Gracie Robinson went 4-for-5 with a double, five runs and three RBIs, and Lizzie Milam was 4-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run.

Gracie Huckeba had a triple and scored a run, and Khloe Yates went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Aniyah Lee added a single, two runs and an RBI.

Weaver’s Ali Anderson was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Ashlyn Coleman had a double and two RBIs. Anna Shirvinski went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Stevie McGinnis and Reyleigh Partner each had a single, a run and an RBI, and Caitlyn Edmonsosn went 2-for-4 with a run.

CENTRAL-CLAY 11, CLEBURNE COUNTY 1: Lauryn Reed and Chloe Morris combined to hold Cleburne County to four hits. Reed worked five innings, allowing three hits and three walks but no earned runs with five strikeouts. Morris allowed one hit with two strikeouts in one inning.

Lakelynn Karr went 2-for-3 with a double, four runs and three RBIs. Soccara Lopez was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Ensleigh Giddens was 2-for-3 with two doubles, three runs and an RBI.

Suraya Colburn went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs, and the Vols got a single and an RBI apiece from Ivy McCain and Analyssa Harris.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 10, WINTERBORO 1: JCA’s Sophie Williams pitched a complete game striking out 14 batters and allowing five hits in seven innings. She issued no walks.

Williams also went 3-for-4 with a triple, a run and an RBI.

Carlie Chesson went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run Cali Sexton went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Addy Lee had a triple, two RBIs and a run, and Bryleigh Reid went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Taylor Cash went 2-for-4 with a double and a run, and Mollie Mullinax went 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Soccer

WEAVER BOYS 4, SAKS 1: Weaver goalkeeper Joe Vines had 12 saves, and the Bearcats got a goal apiece from Carsyn Pippin, Uli Lazcano, Caleb Hotaling and Jacob Wrobel.

DONOHO GIRLS 11, FAITH CHRISTIAN 1: Samantha Wakefield scored three goals, and top-ranked Donoho (5-0) made it 40 goals in five matches.

Anna Kate Wallace and Addison West had two goals apiece, and the Falcons got one goal apiece from Ava Adderhold, Hania Rehman, Brooke Vandiber and Katelyn McMorris.

WHITE PLAINS BOYS 10, CLEBURNE COUNTY 0: White Plains got four goals from Anthony Osorto, two apiece from Brodie Wesley and Jayden Collins and one apiece from Axl Jenkins and Emmanuel Gonzalez.

WHITE PLAINS GIRLS 3, CLEBURNE COUNTY 0: White Plains got two goals from Lorali McKenzie and one from Savannah Deloach.
