GULF SHORES — After going 3-0-1 in pool play, Alexandria went 1-1 in the Gulf Coast Classic tournament Wednesday, beating Greenbrier 8–1 and falling to St. James 7-0.

The Valley Cubs (14-3-2) beat St. James 3-2 in pool play.

“I’m happy at where we are at this point in the season,” Alexandria coach Brian Hess said. “We have played a lot of really good teams with really good pitching.

“Allyssa hurt her back and missed both days of pool play down here. We had younger kids step up and others played out of position to get to today with relative success. She returned to the lineup today. Reece Carr has been phenomenal so far and she is carrying a lot more of the load to give Pressley more rest than she has had the last couple of years.”

SILVERDALE BAPTIST 8, PLEASANT VALLEY 1: After going 3-1 in pool play and earning a first-round bye in the tournament, Pleasant Valley fell to Silverdale Baptist in the Gulf Shores Classic tournament on Wednesday.

The Raiders finished 3-2 in Gulf Shores and stand 18-3 overall.

“We had a hard time against a very good large private school, Silverdale, out of Chattanooga,” Pleasant Valley coach David Bryant said. “We made a few youthful mistakes early and got no breaks. It goes that way sometimes.

“We went 3-2, and it was a great learning experience for our younger players who were pushed by competing at a higher level.”

Alexa Cranmer highlighted Pleasant Valley’s against Silverdale, going 3-for-3 with an RBI. The Raiders also got a single apiece from Lilly Robinson and Haylie Lee.
