OXFORD — Piedmont’s baseball team broke out of a six-game skid in a big way Thursday.

Playing in the Spring Experience at Choccolocco Park, the Bulldogs beat Class 4A top-ranked Westbrook Christian 3-0 and Pleasant Valley 16-1 to improve to 6-7.

Brodie Homesley pitched what veteran Piedmont coach Matt Deerman called “one of the top five games in my career,” holding Westbrook Christian to four hits. He struck out 11 batters with no walks.

Brenan Hurst went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI, and Piedmont got a single apiece from Aliandre Wright and Hayes Gunn.

Cole Austin went 2-for-3 with a run.

Westbrook Christian (15-2) got a single apiece from Brodie Johnson, Brody Blevins, Noah Wright and Bo Kilgo. Braden Kay pitched all six innings, allowing seven hits, one walk and three earned runs with seven strikeouts.

Piedmont’s Carson Cleveland pitched a three-hitter against Pleasant Valley, allowing one earned run and one walk with four strikeouts in five innings.

The Bulldogs got two RBIs apiece from Gunn (2-for-3, double, two runs), Caden Marturello (1-for-1), Brayden Estes (1-for-2, two runs) and Chase Kirkpatrick (2-for-3, one run).

Hurst doubled with an RBI and a run, and Aliandre Wright went 2-for-2 with four runs and an RBI. Homesley had a single and an RBI. 

Pleasant Valley (10-6) got a double from Dixon Duncan, and Dallas Roper went 2-for-2. 

WHITE PLAINS 7, PLEASANT VALLEY 3: Jacob Stamm went 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs and an RBI, and White Plains improved to 8-8 with a victory in the Spring Experience at Choccolocco Park.

Crew Martin went 2-for-3, and the Wildcats got an RBI apiece from Beau Madrigal and Brodie Beacham.

Luke Richardson got the win, allowing five hits, three walks and one earned run with one strikeout in six innings. 

Leading the way for Pleasant Valley (10-5) was Will Underwood, who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jackson Acker went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Peyton Mann had a single and a run.

LINCOLN 6-4, JACKSONVILLE 5-0: Nic Catlett and B Shisler combined to pitch a four-hit shutout in the nightcap, and Lincoln swept Jacksonville 6-5 and 4-0 on Thursday to take the Class 5A, Area 11 series. 

Jacksonville (10-11) won 3-2 on Tuesday.

Catlett allowed four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over six innings, and Shisler pitched a perfect seventh inning with one strikeout.

Cole East went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and an RBI, and Parks Woodruff went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run. Carson Perez added an RBI.

Jacksonville got a single apiece from Matthew Salmon, Xaye Lemon, Parker Moore and Easton Lackey.

Lincoln won Thursday’s first game with a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, culminating in Perez’s walk-off, two-run single to score Woodruff and Christian Bean. Woodruff reached on a run-scoring single.

Perez and Catlett finished with two RBIs apiece, and Catlett homered. Woodruff went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Jacksonville’s John Ducar had a single and two RBIs, and Lackey had a single and an RBI. Nicholas Johnson also drove in a run, and Moore went 3-for-4 with a double and a run. Lemon also hit a double.

CHEROKEE COUNTY 13-11, CLEBURNE COUNTY 12-1: Adam Griffith pitched a four-hit shutout with five strikeouts in five innings in Game 2 Thursday, and Cherokee County (11-10) swept the doubleheader to rally and win the Class 4A, Area 12 series.

Cleburne County (10-6) won 7-4 on Tuesday.

Carson Tittle, Parker Wilson and Evan Hill had two RBIs apiece in Thursday’s Game 2. James Hunter had a single, a run and an RBI, and Luke Young had a double and scored two runs.

Cleburne County’s Matthew Wilson went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Cherokee County scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie Thursday’s first game then won on Hunter’s walk-off single in the seventh.

The Warriors’ eight-run sixth included Griffith’s RBI single, Wilson’s two-run single, Hunter’s RBI single, Young’s run-scoring sacrifice fly, Hill’s bases-loaded walk on four pitches and Tittle’s two-runs single.

Nate Black went 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, three runs and two RBIs. Tittle had a game-high three RBIs, going 1-for-2. He also scored two runs.

Griffith went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.

Cleburne County’s Aiden Laminack went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs, and Hunter Gore was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run. Tyler Rucker added a single and two RBIs, and Luke Smith had a single, three runs and an RBI. Gavin Robinson and Gabriel Wickersham each had an RBI.

MUNFORD 21, TALLADEGA 0: Braydon Nichols pitched a perfect game with 13 strikeouts in five innings, and Munford (10-4) put up a 13-run first inning and eight-run second and cruised in Class 4A, Area 9 play.

The Lions sent 17 batters to the plate in the first inning and 14 in the second.

Lathan Stephens finished with a home run, three RBIs and two runs, and Gatlin Watts went 2-for-2 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs.

Nichols went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run. Brody Wilson went 2-for-2 with a triple, a run and an RBI, and B.J. Anderson was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Braylon Stewart went 2-for-2 with a double and three runs.

RANBURNE 10, CENTRAL COOSA 0: Ranburne’s Colton Johnson pitched a one-hitter with 10 

strikeouts in five innings, and the Bulldogs improved to 7-9 while winning in Class 2A, Area 8 play. He also scored two runs.

Cason Jones led the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Sam Davenport had a single, two runs and two RBIs. Lane Benefield had a single, two runs and an RBI, and James Ward went 2-for-3 with a run.

Softball

MUNFORD 9, OXFORD 5: Kastin Lathem went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, and Munford improved to 16-1.

Madison Arnold was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs, and Addyson Britt went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Chloe Pickette went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Ashtyn Bishop went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Brooklyn Pressley got the win, allowing three hits, four walks and two earned runs and five strikeouts in seven innings.

Oxford (6-8) got a single apiece from Jayla Jackson, Jordyn Alexander and Stephens. Alexander scored two runs, and Jackson and Kylee Stephens scored one apiece. Haleigh Pruitt had an RBI.

GLENCOE 15, WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 0: Glencoe’s Kynsley Freeman was perfect for three innings, striking out four batters, and the Yellow Jackets upped to 5-9 while winning in Class 3A, Area 11 play.

Freeman was also 2-for-2 at the plate with three runs and two RBIs.

Isabella Romano went 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and a run. Adyson Owens was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Caitlin Romano went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run.

Katy Talbot had a single and two RBIs, and Evelyn Nowak had a single, a run and an RBI.

HANDLEY 19, TALLADEGA 3: Breydan Watkins, Rayna Smith and Tennley Benefield homered as Handley improved to 12-12 while winning in Class 4A, Area 8 play.

Benefield went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs, and Watkins was 2-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs. Smith was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs.

Handley’s Keira Addison went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Brynnley Lane was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs. Rileigh Bradley had a double and a run.

Smith got the win, allowing five hits, one walk and one earned run with three strikeouts in four innings.

SPRING GARDEN 18, SAND ROCK 7: There are things better than hitting for the cycle.

Maggie Jarrett homered, tripled and hit two doubles, and Spring Garden improved to 7-4. She finished 4-for-5 with four runs and three RBIs.

Addie Word went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Paisley Woodall went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs, and Avery Steward singled with two RBIs and two runs.

Helena Ingram went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three runs and an RBI, and Layla Ingram went 4-for-5 with a double, four runs and an RBI.

Rylie Ham had a single, a run and an RBI, and Olivia Law added a single and an RBI.

Steward pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits, two walks and one earned run with four strikeouts in six innings.

Soccer

DONOHO GIRLS 10, CHILDERSBURG 0: Class 1A-3A top-ranked Donoho got four goals and an assist from Samantha Wakefield and improved to 12-0 overall, 4-0 in Area 5 play.

The Falcons also upped their season goal differential to 100-5. They need 11 goals to break the school single-season record.

Donoho also got a goal apiece from Brooke Vandiber, Chloe Melton, Lauren Wiggly and Anna Kate Wallace. Wiggly, Wallace and Brie Bailey had an assist apiece.
