Oxford’s baseball team wins in Tennessee, and Hope Christian tops Coosa Valley Academy. Woodland sweeps Wadley in softball.

Rocco Maniscalco tripled and drove in a team-high four RBIs, and Oxford beat Chicago’s Lane Tech College Prep 8-4 to open the Yellow Jackets spring-break trip to Tennessee.

Hudson Gilman went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Marcus Lawler was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Canaan Whitman had a single and an RBI. Nick Richardson and Bryson Bradford each went 2-for-2 with two runs.

Gavin Griner got the win, spreading out eight hits with one walk and three earned runs and two strikeouts in five innings. Aiden Noyola allowed on hit, two walks and one earned run with one strikeout in two innings of relief.

Oxford improved to 14-7 on the season.

HOPE CHRISTIAN 4, COOSA VALLEY ACADEMY 2: Eli Bozeman struck out 18 batters and allowed two hits over seven innings, and Hope improved to 12-5.

Easten Strickland went 3-for-3 with a double and a run, and Layton Owensby had a single and two RBIs. Trevor Ryaks went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Kainen Bozeman went 1-for-3 with a run.

Softball

WOODLAND 12-15, WADLEY 0-0: Railey Williams pitched a no-hitter over five innings in the first game and allowed two hits in 2 1/3  innings in the second game, She combined 16 strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings for the doubleheader.

She also went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs in the first game and 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI in the second game.

Another key performer in both teams was Emma Elsberry, who went a combined 4-for-5 with five runs and two RBIs. She had a home run and double in the second game.

In the first game, Alyssa Taylor went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and two runs. Skylar Vann had a double, an RBI and a run. Maddie Fordham went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI, and Lucy Phillips had a single, a run and an RBI.

The second game saw Ella Waites went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Vann went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Phillips 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, and Kaitlyn Davidson went 2-for-3.

Fordham had a triple.

Woodland stands at 16-3 on the season.
