ALEXANDRIA — Alexandria was a unanimous choice as top seed for next week’s Calhoun County softball tournament, and the Valley Cubs keep validating the vote on the field.
Pressley Slaton went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs and pitched a complete game, and Alexandria beat visiting Pleasant Valley 11-1 on Tuesday.
Pleasant Valley (18-4) was voted as the county’s No. 2 seed. Alexandria (15-3-2) has also beaten No. 3 White Plains (11-7) twice this season, 13-6 and 10-0.
Slaton’s performance in the circle Tuesday included nine strikeouts and two walks while spreading out five hits in six innings.
Allyssa Hunt went 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI, and BooBoo Bright went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, two runs an RBI.
Kaden Pritchett had a double, two runs and an RBI, and Brenlee Sparks added a double, a run and an RBI.
The Valley Cubs also got a single and RBI apiece from Charlee Parris and Cali Hess, and Reece Carr went 2-for-3 with two runs.
For Pleasant Valley, Lilly Robinson had a single and an RBI, and Haylie Lee hit a double.
WELLBORN 12, SAKS 4: Cassidy Gray went 3-for-5 with a home run and triple, four runs and four RBIs, and Wellborn won in Class 3A, Area 9 play.
Ryleigh Smith had a single and three RBIs. Destiny Benefield went 3-for-5 with three runs, and Jaylyn Chattin went 3-for-4 with three runs.
Hannah Grubbs added a single, a run and an RBI.
Wellborn scored four runs each in the first and second innings and three in the sixth. Benefield got the win, pitching one perfect inning.
Saks’ D’Carol Kidd had a single and two RBIs, and Ava Snead went 2-for-3 with two triples and a run. Kendal Harris went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Raina Zackary had a single and an RBI.
PIEDMONT 8, CEDAR BLUFF 7: Cacey Brothers scored the walk-off run in the ninth inning, when Cedar Bluff’s catcher accidentally hit batter NaKiyah Bothwell in the head with a pickoff throw.
Piedmont improved to 3-10.
Brothers went 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Kaelyn Greene went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Bulldogs also got a single and an RBI apiece from Cadence Buttram and Natalie Yakely, and Anna Hase drew two walks with two RBIs.
RANDOLPH COUNTY 8, WEAVER 7: Lizzie Milam hit a walk-off, three-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Randolph County (8-6) answered Weaver’s four-run top of the seventh while winning in Class 3A, Area 9 play.
Milam finished with four RBIs on the day. She also got the win, spreading out six hits, one walk and three earned runs over three innings. She struck out two batters.
Hannah Parmer added two RBIs. Kinsley Weathers had a triple, two runs and an RBI, and Gracie Robinson went 2-for-3 with a run.
Bryer Thompson added a single, a run and an RBI.
Weaver’s four-run seventh featured Payton Hall’s RBI single, Maddie Stanford’s RBI triple and Ali Anderson’s sacrifice fly. Hall finished with two RBIs.
Stanford finished 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. R Partner had two doubles and an RBI, and Anderson went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Ashlyn Coleman had a double, two runs and an RBI.
Baseball
ALEXANDRIA 7, CLEBURNE COUNTY 0: Bray Goode struck out 14 batters and allowed three hits in seven innings as Alexandria (12-9) won in Class 4A, Area 12 play. He also went 3-for-5 with a run.
Jacob Cunningham went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Cole Wheeler had a single and two RBIs.
Jeremiah Heathcock added a single and an RBI, and Garrett Haynes had a single and scored two runs.
Cleburne County (10-7) got a single apiece from Gavin Robinson, Tyler Rucker and Gabriel Wickersham.
PIEDMONT 5, OHATCHEE 0: Cole Austin struck out nine batters with no walks and allowed four hits in seven innings, and Piedmont (7-8) won in Class 3A, Area 11 play.
The Bulldogs also got two RBIs from Brayden Estes, and Aliandre Wright had a double and an RBI. Brenan Hurst added a double and a run.
Ohatchee’s Brayden Collins went 2-for-3, and the Indians (6-9) got a single apiece from Jake Roberson and Hunter Brown.
WELLBORN 24, SAKS 11: Dozer Hayes went 2-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs, and Wellborn (7-11) won in Class 3A, Area 9 play.
Brady Greenwood went 1-for-2 with a triple and five RBIs, and Ashton Woodard went 1-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs.
Liam Avery went 1-for-2 with four runs and two RBIs, and Sawyer Thomas was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI. J Clark went 1-for-2 with four runs and an RBI.
Zack Pressley had a double and three runs, and J.D. Talley went 1-for-1 with two runs and an RBI. Tanner Ingram added a single, a run and an RBI.
Saks’ Eli Wills went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs, and the WIldcats (1-7) got a single and RBI apiece from Lajuan Curry, Jayden Woods and Zaden Cordry.
WEAVER 13, RANDOLPH COUNTY 7: Tucker Michaels went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, and Weaver (6-13) won in Class 3A, Area 9 play.
Carson Campbell went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run, and Landon Free went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs.
Haiden Hise and Gage Brown each had a single and two RBIs. Connor Hyatt went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs, and Tracen Jones went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Randolph County’s Daniel Jones went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Ethan Watts had a single and two RBIs, and Creed Blankenship and Mike Robinson each had two hits and two runs for the TIgers (2-15).
WHITE PLAINS 8, RANBURNE 7: Beau Madrigal’s walk-off single in the seventh inning helped White Plains improve to 9-8. He finished 2-for-5 on the day.
Crew Martin and Jacob Stamm each had a single and two RBIs, and Dalton Luker went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI. Aiden Kilgore had a single and two runs.
Ranburne’s Cason Jones had a single and two RBIs, and Owen Henderson went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. James Ward and Carter Loren each had a single and an RBI, and Colton Johnson had a double and a run. Sam Davenport added a single and two runs.
HOPE CHRISTIAN 9-9, COOSA VALLEY 3-4: Hope Christian (14-5) completed a three-game sweep of Coosa Valley Academy on Tuesday, winning 9-3 and 9-4 on the road. The Saints win 4-2 at home Monday.
Eli Bozeman went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs in Tuesday’s first game, and Kainen Bozeman went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
The Saints got a single, an RBI and a run apiece from Aziah Amberson and Easten Strickland, and Trevor Ryals had a single and an RBI.
Ryals got the win, allowing 11 hits and one walk but only three earned runs with nine strikeouts.
Kainen Bozeman went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run in the second game, and Ryals went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs.
Cayden Slick went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Amberson went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Sean Perez added a single, a run and an RBI.
Amberson got the win, allowing two hits, four walks and two earned runs with two strikeouts in five innings. Strickland allowed a hit, two walks and no runs with a strikeout in two innings of relief.
Soccer
WHITE PLAINS GIRLS 6, WEAVER 0: White Plains’ Lorali McKenzie scored three goals. Selma Pascual, Jakayla Palmer and Kay Martinez scored one apiece.
WHITE PLAINS BOYS 4, WEAVER 0: White Plains’ Anthony Osorto scored three goals, and Jose Ramirez scored one.
