First round

JACKSONVILLE 16, ANNISTON 1: Chloe Lockett held 11th seeded Anniston to four hits with four strikeouts over three innings, and No. 6 Jacksonville advanced to the winners’ bracket to face No. 3 White Plains at 5:30 p.m.

Jacksonville got two RBIs apiece from Ana Strain, Sadee-Pate Whitfield, Lockett. Jaylen Huntley and Harper Atchley. Atchley hit a triple, and Huntley went 2-for-2 with a double and a run. Dailyn Wood doubled and scored three runs.

Anniston’s K House went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

OXFORD 20, JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 5: Jayla Jackson went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and three runs, and No. 5 Oxford advanced to face No. 4 Ohatchee in the winners’ bracket.

Jordyn Alexander went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs, and Haleigh Pruitt went 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and a run.

Koriyah Kimbrough hit a double and drove in two runs, and Kylee Stephens hit a double with three runs and two RBIs.

Madison Murphy hit a single, scored three runs and had an RBI.

Jacksonville Christian’s Addy Lee hit a single and had three RBIs, and Mollie Mullinax was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Sophie Williams went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs.

WELLBORN 5, SAKS 3: No. 8 Wellborn had two hits but took advantage of eight walks and advanced to face top seed Alexandria in the winners’ bracket.

Jordan Hunt had Wellborn’s lone RBI. Ryleigh Smith had a triple and scored a run, and Jaylin Chattin singled and scored a run.

Destiny Benefield got the win, allowing two hits and no runs with two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.

Saks’ Ava Snead with 3-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Caylee Miller went 2-for-2 with two runs.

WEAVER 7, PIEDMONT 6: Anna Shirvinski’s two-run single walked it off for Weaver, which advanced to face No. 2 Pleasant Valley in the winners’ bracket.

Shirvinski’s single scored Ali Anderson, who reached on a single, and Caitlyn Edmonson, who reached on an intentional walk.

Weaver’ Ashlyn Coleman 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run, and Edmonson hit a double and drove in two runs. Anderson singled, scored two runs and had an RBI.

Reyleigh Partner got the win, spreading out nine hits over six innings. She allowed three walks and four earned runs with two strikeouts.

Piedmont’s Na’kiya Bothwell went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Kaelyn Greene went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run. Cayla Brothers and Anna Hase each doubled and scored two runs.

Winners’ bracket

ALEXANDRIA 16, WELLBORN 3: Brenlee Sparks homered twice, and Alexandria (20-4-2) responded with a 12-run third inning after Wellborn got out to a 3-1 lead.

The Valley Cubs will play Oxford in Thursday’s 4 p.m. winners’ bracket semifinals.

Tuesday’s game marked Sparks’ breakout game after time in the cage. She went 2-for-3 with five RBIs.

“Brenlee has worked her rear end off,” Alexandria coach Brian Hess said. “She will text me. They always text me and say, ‘Hey, coach, I’m going to the cage.’ We got done with a game last week, and she said, ‘Hey coach, I’m going to go back to the cage and work. I need to fine tune my swing. Something’s not feeling right.’

“She’s worked and worked and worked, and it couldn’t happen to a better kid.”

Sparks hit her first two home runs of the season after hitting five last season, and she enjoyed her first two-homer game since doing it against Spring Garden as a seventh-grader.

“I’ve been in a slump recently, especially going to the beach,” she said. “I just had to work on staying through the ball. It’s been an adjustment.

“That’s what I was thinking up there, just trying to stay through the ball and get a base hit and score my teammates.”

Alexandria’s Allyssa Hunt went 3-for-4 with two doubles with four RBIs and two runs, and Charlee Parris went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs.

Pressley Slaton hit a double with two runs and an RBI, and Kaden Pritchett went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Cali Hess went 2-for-3 with a double and a run, and Reece Carr was 2-for-2 with a double and a run.

Carr got the win, allowing four hits and one earned run with three strikeouts in three innings.

Wellborn’s Destiny Benefield went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, and Hannah Grubbs had a single and an RBI. Cassidy Gray added an RBI.

PLEASANT VALLEY 9, WEAVER 0: Haylie Lee pitched a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts through five innings and hit two doubles with three RBIs and a run, and the Raiders (20-7) punched their ticket to Thursday.

Pleasant Valley will play White Plains in the winners’ bracket semifinals, at 4 p.m.

Lilly Robinson went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI Tuesday, and Alexa Cranmer had a single, two runs and an RBI. Lily Henry was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, and Cailey Almaroad went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.

“I’m proud of my bunch,” Pleasant Valley coach David Bryant said. “Last week was a tough week for us, but we got back on track today.”

WHITE PLAINS 3, JACKSONVILLE 0: Leighton Arnold pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts, and White Plains played its way into Thursday’s winners’ bracket semifinals.

The third-seeded Wildcats will play No. 2 Pleasant Valley at 4 p.m.

“Leighton did what you want a senior to do,” White Plains coach Anna Burgess said. “I wanted her to have the ball tonight, and she did more than I could’ve asked. She pitched a great game.”

Karli Otwell led White Plains at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Carli Fritts added an RBI.

Ana Strain had Jacksonville’s hit, a double.

OXFORD 5, OHATCHEE 4: Jackson got pinch hitter Makayla Brackett to strike out swinging on a 2-2 count with two outs and the bases loaded, and No. 5 Oxford edged No. 4 Ohatchee to reach Thursday’s winners’ bracket semifinals.

Oxford (10-10) will play top seed Alexandria at 4 p.m.

Jackson got the win, allowing five hits and four earned runs with six strikeouts over five innings. She also went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs.

Jackson was 6-for-7 on the day.

“Jayla held her composure tonight,” Oxford coach Wendy McKibbin said. “She did well on the mound, and she also did well hitting both games.”

Murphy doubled with a run and an RBI, and Alexander added an RBI.

Ohatchee’s Mackenzie Luna doubled with two RBIs and two runs, and Mollee Barnes added an RBI. Gracie Reed went 2-for-2 with a run.

Elimination bracket

WEAVER 13, SAKS 10: Weaver’s Maddie Stanford homered twice, including a three-run, inside-the-park homer to end the game, and the Bearcats (7-7) advanced in the elimination bracket to face Piedmont on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Stanford finished 3-for-3 with seven RBIs and two runs. She also had a double.

Partner hit two doubles and scored three runs, and Stevie McGinnis had a double, two runs and an RBI. Promise McClean added a single, two RBIs and a run.

For Saks, Miller went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and three runs, and Snead went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. D’Carol Kidd also went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Raina Zackary and A.J. Twymon each had a single and an RBI.

JACKSONVILLE 7, WELLBORN 4: Wood and Huntley homered for Jacksonville (8-10), and the Golden Eagles advanced in the elimination bracket to face Ohatchee on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Wood went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Huntley went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Lockett had a double and an RBI, and Jacksonville got a single and RBI apiece from Strain and Whitfield. Avery Allen added a double and a run.

Wellborn’s Maci Maxwell doubled with two RBIs, and Grubbs and Smith each had a single and an RBI. Gray went 2-for-3 with two runs, and Benefield had a double.

OHATCHEE 13, ANNISTON 3: Asia Keith hit a three-run home run, and Ohatchee (18-8) advanced in the elimination bracket to face Jacksonville on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Luna had a triple, a run and an RBI, and Annie Cox had a double and two runs. Alanah Fitch had a single, a run and three RBIs, and Reed had two RBIs and a run. Lexi Thomas added a single, a run and an RBI.

Anniston’s Lyric Williams tripled and drove in two runs, and Tokyo Lloyd had a single, a run and an RBI.

PIEDMONT 10, JCA 4: Cacey Brothers went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a run, and Piedmont advanced in the elimination bracket to face Weaver on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Cayla Brothers went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and Hase had a single, two RBIs and a run. Carson Young and Cadence Buttram each added a single, a run and an RBI.

JCA’s Symone Estell went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs and an RBI, and B Reid went 2-for-3 with a double. Tori Burdette and Cali Sexton each had a single and an RBI, and Lee had a single and a run.
