Winners’ bracket
ALEXANDRIA 5, OXFORD 2: Pressley Slaton went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs and pitched a complete game, and top seed Alexandria advanced to the winners’ bracket final and will play Pleasant Valley at 5:30 p.m.
Slaton allowed two hits with five strikeouts over five innings.
Alexandria’s Allyssa Hunt went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Charlee Parris was 2-for-2 with two runs. Brenlee Sparks had a double, and Kaden Pritchett singled and scored a run.
Oxford’s Charleigh Trotter singled with an RBI, and Cadence Kennedy had an RBI.
PLEASANT VALLEY 4, WHITE PLAINS 3: Alexa Cranmer scored on a passed ball with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, and No. 2 seed Pleasant Valley advanced to face Alexandria in the winners’ bracket final at 5:30 p.m.
Cranmer finished 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Aubree Cromer had a double, a run and an RBI. Lily Henry added a single and an RBI.
Henry pitched 4 2/3 innings, holding White Plains to three hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts. Haylie Lee came on to get the last Wildcats batter.
White Plains’ Leighton Arnold homered with two RBIs, and Jaylie Holt had a single and an RBI.
ALEXANDRIA 12, PLEASANT VALLEY 1: Allyssa Hunt, Brenlee Sparks and Charlee Parris homered, and top seed Alexandria blasted its way in Friday’s finals.
The Valley Cubs (22-4-2) will play the Oxford-White Plains winner Friday at 7 p.m. at Jacksonville State University.
Hunt hit a two-run homer on the way to finishing 1-for-2 with three RBIs and a run. Sparks hit her third home run of the tournament, a solo shot, on the way to finishing 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
Parris’ three-run homer ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. She finished 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, three runs and three RBIs.
Parris called her walk-off homer a happy accident.
“It was kind of a popup, but I didn’t expect it,” she said. “I was just looking to finish this game and get something on the ground.”
Slaton, who homered in Alexandria’s victory over Oxford earlier Thursday, got the win, allowing two hits with four strikeouts over five innings.
“I feel really confident in our team,” Slaton said. “We’re making some big plays. We do devotionals every week, and I think it’s brought us closer together as a team, and that’s what’s helped us mend together and to make big plays.”
Alexandria coach Brian Hess praised the Valley Cubs for answering the bell after a slow start in a victory over Wellborn on Tuesday.
“We knew coming in that the tournament was going to be tough,” he said. “I didn’t think we played very good to begin with, obviously, Tuesday, and I didn’t we played very good against Oxford.
“We responded good enough to win, and this game I felt like we came in and set the tone and did what we needed to do to get to tomorrow. I’m extremely proud of them.”
Elimination bracket
PIEDMONT 11, WEAVER 7: Cacey Brothers homered with two RBIs and two runs, and Piedmont advanced to face White Plains at 5:30 p.m.
Eliza Mathis went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Cadence Buttram went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Anna Hase doubled and scored two runs, and Na’kia Bothwell went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs.
Weaver’s Ashlyn Coleman had a single and two RBIs, and Maddie Stanford had a single, a run and an RBI. Anna Shirvinski added a run and an RBI.
OHATCHEE 12, JACKSONVILLE 8: Mackenzie Luna homered, drove in four runs and scored three runs, and Ohatchee survived to face Oxford at 5:30 p.m.
Jordyn Faulkner had a double and two RBIs, and Savannah Reaves went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Alanah Fitch added a single, a run and an RBI, and Lexi Thomas had an RBI.
Blaze Steward doubled and scored two runs, and Reese Steward singled and scored a run.
Jacksonville’s Dailyn Wood went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Chloe Lockett had a single, two RBIs and a run, and Sadee Pate-Whitfield added a double and two RBIs.
Jaylen Huntley went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run. Ana Strain went 2-for-4 with a double and a run, and Lacey Barnes added a double, two runs and an RBI.
The Golden Eagles also got a double, a run and an RBI from KeAsiah Williams.
WHITE PLAINS 5, PIEDMONT 0: Carli Fritts went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs, and the Wildcats advanced to face Oxford in a 7 p.m. elimination game.
The winner advances to Friday’s play at Jacksonville State University.
Leighton Arnold pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts. She also had a double and an RBI.
Carleigh-Anne Greene added a double and two RBIs, and Sara Kate Adams went 3-for-3 with a double.
Cadence Buttram had Piedmont’s hit, a single.
OXFORD 21, OHATCHEE 4: Kylee Stephens went 3-for-5 with a home run, double, five RBIs and two runs, and No. 5 seed Oxford beat No. 4 Ohatchee for the second time in the tournament.
The Yellow Jackets advanced to a 7 p.m. elimination game against White Plains.
Oxford beat Ohatchee 5-4 on Tuesday, but the Yellow Jackets’ bats caught fire Thursday. Jordyn Alexander went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three runs and three RBIs, and Madison Murphy finished with a double, four runs and four RBIs.
Cadence Kennedy went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Emma Tims-Becerra went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Jayla Jackson went 3-for-5 with a double and four runs.
Charleigh Trotter had a double, a run and an RBI.
Jackson got the win, spreading out five hits and one earned run with five strikeouts in four innings.
Ohatchee’s Mackenie Luna went 2-for-2 with a home run and two runs. Savannah Reaves added a single and an RBI.
OXFORD 6, WHITE PLAINS 3: A young Oxford team was voted the No. 5 seed in the Calhoun County Tournament, but the Yellow Jackets will play on the final day.
Jayla Jackson spread out seven hits over five innings and struck out seven batters, and Oxford beat No. 3 White Plains after eliminating No. 4 Ohatchee on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will play No. 2 Pleasant Valley for a berth in the finals Friday at 4 p.m. at Jacksonville State University.
Besides her pitching exploits, Jackson went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Jordyn Alexander had triple and two RBIs, and Kylee Stephens added a double, an RBI and a run.
Charleigh Trotter went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Madison Murphy added an RBI. Emma Tims-Becerra went 1-for-2 with two runs.
White Plains’ Carleigh-Anne Green went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Sara Kate Adams went 2-for-3. Carli Fritts and Emma Tidwell each had a single and a run.
