OXFORD — Yandel Amador and Aldo Gutierrez scored two goals apiece, and Oxford’s boys beat visiting Pinson Valley 6-4 in Thursday’s first-round soccer playoff action.

Oxford (13-8-1) is making its first playoff appearance since 2018 and scored its first playoff victory since beating Cullman 1-0 in 2018. 

Oxford will play Gardendale on the road in the second round at a date and time to be determined. Gardendale beat Pell City 3-0.

Oxford’s Kevin Reyes and Kevin Martinez added a goal apiece Thursday. Anna Marie Harris will play Briarwood Christian”s Emma Jahraus in the No. 3 singles semifinals.

Tennis

DONOHO GIRLS: The Falcons stand in fourth place after Thursday’s action in the state tournament in Mobile.

Sardis posted 43 points Thursday to lead Deshler (33), Saint James (28), Donoho (26), Demopolis (24) and Randolph (24) in what should be a wild finish Friday.

Blair Kitchen will play Deshler’s Abigail Black in the No. 2 singles semifinals on Friday, and Anne Marie Harris will play Briarwood Christian’s Emma Jahraus in No. 3 singles.

Natalie Rodgers will play Sardis’ Jesa Leigh Bonds in the No. 4 singles semifinals, and Elizabeth Downey will play St. James’ Olivia Willis in the No. 5 singles semis. Claire Tollison faces Randolph School’s Avery Skinner in No. 6 singles.

The No. 3 doubles team of Rogers and Samantha Wakefield will play Sardis’ Landrey Johnson/Julia Phillips in the semifinals.

Tennis

DONOHO GIRLS: The Falcons stand in fourth place after the first day of the Class 4A-5A state tournament in Mobile. Sardis posted 43 points Thursday to lead Deshler (33), Saint James (28), Donoho (26), Demopolis (24) and Randolph (24).

Blair Kitchen got through to the No. 2 singles semifinals and will face Deshler’s Abigail Black on Friday.

Softball

PLEASANT VALLEY 12, COOSA CHRISTIAN 0: Abby Evans, Haylie Lee and Bailey Grogan pitched a combined no-hitter, and Pleasant Valley finished the regular season at 34-13.

Lee got the win, pitching three perfect innings with six strikeouts. Evans and Grogan pitched an inning apiece.

The Raiders also got home runs from Lily Henry, Cailey Almaroad and Ellie Patterson. Patterson hit a three-run homer in the third inning, and Henry hit a three-run homer in the fourth. Almaroad rounded the bases on a solo, inside-the-park homer in the fourth.

Patterson went 1-for-3 with a team-high four RBIs, and Henry went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs. Almaroad went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Aubree Cromer went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Lilly Robinson added an RBI.

Elise Wheeler and Alexa Cranmer each singled and scored a run.

CENTRAL-CLAY 4, WOODLAND 2: Soccara Lopez tripled with two RBIs, and Central-Clay finished the regular season at 21-12.

Analyssa Harris went 3-for-3 with a run, and Karr went 3-for-4 with a run. Suraya Colburn went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Lauryn Reed allowed three hits with nine strikeouts in six innings.

Woodland’s Lucy Phillips went 2-for-3, and Emma Elsberry doubled and scored a run. Kinsley McDaniel had an RBI.

Railey Williams pitched a complete game, allowing 11 hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks. All four runs were earned.

The Bobcats finished the regular season at 25-6.
