Baseball playoffs
DESHLER 1-10, ALEXANDRIA 0-0: Bray Goode pitched a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts in Game 1 of Alexandria’s best-of-3 Class 4A second-round series, but Deshler kept the Valley Cubs off of the scoreboard.
Price Thornton pitched a no-hitter with six strikeouts in Game 1, and Jacob Alexander pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts in Game 2 as the Tigers advanced.
Garrett Haynes had Alexandria’s lone hit of the day, a single in the first inning of Game 2.
Alexandria finished 20-13 a year after winning a Class 5A state title. The Valley Cubs lost 15 seniors from that state-title team.
SCOTTSBORO 7-13, JACKSONVILLE 4-0: John Ducar went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Matthew Salmon went 3-for-4 with a double and a run in Game 1 of Jacksonville’s Class 5A second-round series, but Scottsboro swept the Golden Eagles 7-4 and 13-0 to advance.
Jacksonville had nine hits in Game 1, but J Nichols pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts in Game 2.
Jacksonville, which advanced to the second round for the first time since 2022, finished 18-19 after winning its fourth consecutive area title under outgoing head coach Jamison Edwards, who be White Plains’ coach in 2026.
COTTONWOOD 7-13, RANBURNE 6-0: Ty Booker’s walk-off RBI single gave Cottonwood a 7-6 victory in Game 1 of their Class 2A second-round series, and Braylon Morris pitched a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in Game 2 as the Bears advanced.
Ranburne’s Drew Davenport went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI in Game 1. James Ward and Sam Davenport each had a single and an RBI.
Ranburne finished 16-19.
Class 6A, Area 11 softball
OXFORD IN FINALS: The Yellow Jackets wrapped victories of 13-2 and 18-3 over Shades Valley around a 6-4 loss to host Pell City.
Oxford (16-15) will play Pell City in Saturday’s finals at noon. Both teams will advance to regional play.
Madison Murphy went 2-for-2 with two doubles and four RBIs in the first game against Shades Valley and Emma Tims-Becerra went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.. Jayla Jackson went 1-for-2 with a triple, three runs and two RBIs, and Haleigh Pruitt went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Tymeria Smith-Lindsey went 2-for-2 with three runs.
Marianna Becerra got the win, spreading out eight hits with three strikeouts.
Charleigh Trotter went 2-for-2 with a triple, four RBIs and a run in the second game against Shades Valley. Sophia Ledbetter went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, and Jordyn Alexander went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
Murphy went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Cadence Kennedy went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.
Becerra got the win, allowing four hits with one strikeout.
Tims-Becerra went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs and two RBIs against Pell City. Kennedy had a single and an RBI.
Class 5A, Area 11 softball
LINCOLN SPLITS: Lincoln opened tourney play with a 10-0 victory over Jacksonville and fell to host St. Clair County 5-1.
Lincoln (26-21-1) will play Jacksonville (13-18) in an elimination game Saturday at 10 a.m. The winner will advance to the finals and regional play.
Against Jacksonville on Friday, Chandler Stephens and Shelby Williams combined to hold Jacksonville to one Sadee Pate-Whitfield double. Stephens got the win, allowing no hits with six strikeouts over four innings, and Williams struck out four batters in two innings.
Cameron Pruitt nearly hit for the cycle, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, a double, three RBIs and two runs.
Aubrey Machen hit a solo home run, and Zoe Korrecket went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Williams went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Williams hit a solo home run against St. Clair County, one of Lincoln’s two hits in the game.
Class 4A, Area 12 softball
ALEXANDRIA 11, CLEBURNE COUNTY 0: Pressley Slaton and Allyssa Hunt homered, and host Alexandria (33-8-3) advanced to the winners’ bracket.
The Valley Cubs will play Cherokee County on Saturday at noon.
Slaton went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a run, and Hunt went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs against her former team. Hunt also had a double.
Charlee Parris went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and Reece Carr went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs. BooBoo Bright added two RBIs, and Brenlee Sparks tripled and scored a run.
Carr pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts.
CHEROKEE COUNTY 4, WHITE PLAINS 1: Cherokee County’s Emma Hill spread out seven hits with 13 strikeouts and advanced to the winners’ bracket. The Warriors will play host Alexandria on Saturday at noon.
Cherokee County’s Journie Cabe went 2-for-3 with a double. Isabella Patterson and Bristol Bass had an RBI apiece.
WHITE PLAINS 10, CLEBURNE COUNTY 0 (PPD): After falling to Cherokee County in the first round, White Plains built a 10-0 lead on Cleburne County with 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning of their elimination game.
Rain stopped the game, and play will resume Saturday at 10 a.m.
White Plains had eight hits in that first-inning rally against Cleburne County. Sara Kate Adams went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, and Leighton Arnold went 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBIs.
Kylee Provencio went 1-for-1 with two RBis and a run. Carleigh-Anne Green and Emma Tidwell each had a single, a run and an RBI, and Karli Otwell had an RBI double.

Class 3A, Area 11 softball
OHATCHEE 7, WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 0: Tabi Davidson went 2-for–3 with a triple and three RBIs, and host Ohatchee (26-10) advanced to the winners’ bracket.
The Indians will play the Glencoe-Piedmont winner on Saturday at 3 p.m. Piedmont led 4-0 when rain stopped play in the top of the fourth inning, and the game will resume Saturday at noon.
Ohatchee’s Reese Steward went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI against Westbrook. Mackenzie Luna went 2-for-2 with a run, and Alanah Fitch went 1-for-4 with a double and two runs,
Gracie Reed had a single, a run and an RBI.
PIEDMONT 4, GLENCOE 0 (PPD): N Bothwell went 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs and an RBI, and Cacey Brothers doubled with a run and an RBI to help Piedmont build a 4-0 lead through three innings.
Play was suspended for rain and will resume Saturday at noon.
Carson Young had an RBI single, and Cayla Brothers had a single and a run.
Young allowed two hits with two strikeouts in three innings.
Class 3A, Area 9 softball
RANDOLPH COUNTY 15, WELLBORN 0: Host Randolph County mounted a 13-run second inning and cruised into the winners’ bracket, dispatching Wellborn in three innings. The Tigers (16-10) will play Weaver on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Randolph County had 16 hits in two at bats. Kinsley Weathers went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a run, and Hannah Parmer went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run. Gracie Huckeba went 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.
Bryer Thompson went 2-for-2 with three runs and an RBI, and Aniyah Lee wnt 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Khloe Yates went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI, and Lizzie Milam had a single and two RBIs.
WEAVER 10, SAKS 1: Anna Shirvinski went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run, and Weaver (10-13) advanced to the winners’ bracket. The Bearcats will play host Randolph County on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Stevie McGinnis and Ashlyn Coleman each had a single, a run and an RBI.
Rayleigh Partner pitched a one-hitter with three strikeouts.
SAKS 10, WELLBORN 1: Raina Zackary pitched a one-hitter with 17 strikeouts, and Saks stayed alive in the elimination bracket.
The Wildcats will play the Weaver-Randolph County loser Saturday at noon. The winner will advance to the finals and clinch a regional berth.
Zackary also went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs and an RBI.
Adrianna Stevens went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs, and Caylee Miller went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and a run.
A.J. Twymon went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and Jamie Carmichael went 2-for-4 with a run. D’Carol Kidd had two RBIs.
